Job Description

Title: Machinist

Duration: 8+ Month Contract

Location: Pierceton, IN 46562

Pay Rate: $25/hr

Shift timings: 3 PM - 11 PM

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

CNC Machinist I (Cut Block) - 2nd Shift

Responsible to assist in set-up of simple jobs and operation of CNC equipment, tooling maintenance, and ensuring that all required processes are completed to produce parts that meet quality and ISO standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist in set-ups of simple (uncomplicated and straightforward) jobs and operate conventional, special-purpose, and computerized numerical control (CNC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts and fits and assemble machined parts into complete units, applying knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, machinability of materials, and layout techniques. Able to run multiple machines at one time.

Review and understand blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and set up requirements.

Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines, such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and tooling pre-setter.

Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications, using precision measuring instruments.

May fit and assemble parts into complete assembly, using jigs, fixtures, surface plate, surface table, hand tools, and power tools.

Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly, using measuring instruments, such as micrometers, height gauges, and gauge blocks.

May be responsible to operate CMM.

Checks for machine readiness to ensure functionality and performance.

Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.

Responsible to comply with company requirements to complete essential documentation as required.

Assure all policies and procedures are followed and safety precautions are taken to reduce the risk of injury.

Maintain a clean work area and assure safe operation of all equipment.

Must be available on reasonable notice for unscheduled overtime to meet production schedules.

Perform and document Operator Preventive Maintenance operations, as needed.

Assist production in all areas.

Assist with tooling / fixturing build.

Occasionally, miscellaneous non-recurring duties may be assigned such as, but not limited to, packing, shipping, unpacking and sorting, inspection, cleaning, finishing, deburring, etc.

EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION:

High School graduate or equivalent.

0-2 years previous machining preferred.

SKILLS:

Ability to work with general supervision.

Excellent problem-solving skills.

Ability to be a team player.

Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize accordingly.

Ability to read blueprints.

Knowledge of GD&T.

Basic knowledge of at least one machining principal required.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to see print in various sizes and formats. May be required to climb stairs. Must regularly be able to pull and push up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

Work environment:

Work performed in a production environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time (for Maintenance & Receiving only). The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high, in some areas.
