Overview

The United Methodist Church of Geneva, located at 211 N. Hamilton Street in Geneva, Illinois, is a welcoming and compassionate community of faith. We illuminate our community with God’s grace as we lovingly accept, listen to, and serve all in the Spirit of Jesus. Because we value music as a vital part of worship and congregational life, we are seeking a skilled organist and pianist to help lead music for worship in collaboration with our music and worship staff. This person will support vibrant, meaningful worship and help create an environment in which the congregation can encounter God through music. The ideal candidate is a strong musician, a thoughtful collaborator, and someone who understands music not only as performance, but as ministry.

Primary Responsibilities

• Provide organ and piano music for Sunday worship services 
• Accompany choirs, soloists, and other musicians in rehearsals and worship 
• Collaborate with the Director of Music, Director of Worship Arts, pastors, and other worship leaders in planning music for services 
• Prepare music appropriate to the seasons of the Christian year, including Advent, Christmas, Lent, Holy Week, and Easter 
• Provide music for special services such as funerals, weddings, and seasonal worship gatherings, as available and arranged in advance
• Support congregational singing and help foster meaningful participation in worship 
• Attend rehearsals as needed in support of the music ministry 

Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in both organ and piano 
• Experience accompanying choirs and congregational singing 
• Ability to work collaboratively with staff and volunteers 
• Familiarity with church worship, hymnody, and sacred music traditions 
• Ability to prepare thoughtfully and reliably for weekly worship 
• Strong organizational and communication skills 
• Previous church music experience preferred

• Compensation commensurate with experience and exact duties as determined.
