VP Enterprise Risk – US FinTech

Job Location:   Austin CA CT FL IL MA NY SF Bay Area TX

Location: United States – Remote (US) or Hybrid (NYC / SF Bay Area / Austin / Miami). Open to candidates based in: NY, NJ, CT, CA, TX, FL, MA, IL (and other states depending on client).

Reports to: COO / CEO; dotted line to Board Risk Committee (where applicable).

Role Overview

The VP Enterprise Risk owns the enterprise risk management framework, aligning risk governance with business strategy across operational, regulatory, financial, and reputational risk. This role supports executive leadership and the board with clear risk intelligence and scalable controls.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and operate an enterprise risk management (ERM) framework including risk taxonomy, appetite, KRIs, and reporting cadence.
  • Lead risk assessments across operations, products, third parties, and regulatory domains; ensure mitigation plans are owned and tracked.
  • Partner with Compliance to integrate regulatory risk with operational risk; drive consistent governance and escalation.
  • Oversee third-party/vendor risk management and business continuity frameworks.
  • Develop executive and board reporting, including scenario analysis and key risk trends.
  • Support strategic initiatives (new products, new states, partnerships) with risk reviews and control requirements.

Requirements

Required Experience

  • 10+ years in enterprise risk / operational risk within financial services, FinTech, banking, or payments.
  • Board and executive reporting experience with demonstrated ability to influence decision-making.
  • Strong grasp of regulatory risk drivers, controls, and governance in regulated environments.

Preferred Background

  • Experience in growth-stage scaling environments; experience with SOC2/ISO, vendor risk, and incident response governance.
  • Risk analytics / data-driven risk monitoring experience.

Benefits

Compensation Guidance

Typical US compensation: $200,000 – $300,000 base, plus bonus/equity depending on stage.
