Position Overview
The Audio Engineer provides hands-on technical support for audio and audiovisual systems in support of performances, rehearsals, events, and rentals across TPAC’s theaters, support spaces, and lobbies. Working within the Production Department, this role collaborates with internal teams, touring productions, and clients to deliver high-quality, reliable, and safe audio experiences that align with artistic intent and event requirements.

Job Responsibilities

  • Contributes to a team-based culture focused on respect, communication, inclusivity, and collaboration.
  • Assist clients, visiting productions, and internal partners with the implementation of audio and audiovisual needs for events and performances.
  • Operate audio systems for live events, including console operation, playback, microphones, and basic signal routing, as assigned.
  • Support production advance by assisting with review of technical riders and communicating audio requirements to supervisors.
  • Work a wide range of events, from small meetings to large-scale productions, including load-ins, rehearsals, performances, and load-outs.
  • Provide event-related technical support to the Event Technical Director, Chief Audio Engineer, or other supervisors as assigned.
  • Serve as an assigned audio technician or board operator for productions and events.
  • Assist with supervising stagehands or over-hire labor for assigned audio calls or maintenance projects.
  • Work collaboratively with touring audio personnel, designers, and artists during event calls.
  • Adjust work activities during events to accommodate changing production needs while maintaining safety and professionalism.
  • Serve as an assigned audio technician or board operator for productions and events.
  • Assist with supervising stagehands or over-hire labor for assigned audio calls or maintenance projects.
  • Work collaboratively with touring audio personnel, designers, and artists during event calls.
  • Adjust work activities during events to accommodate changing production needs while maintaining safety and professionalism.

Qualifications

Required: 

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 4 to 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of theatrical systems & equipment specifically audio and video.
  • Possess managerial and communication abilities for interpersonal relationships with clients, various depts., full and part –time technical staff members.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment including confidence/experience to make quick decisions.
  • Experience with Audio software and Network Audio Signals including: Dante, Shure Wireless Workbench, Qlab v5 (audio and video), MAc, PC, Clear Com Encore and FreeSpeak.
  • Competency with Yamaha CL and Rivage consoles.
  • Competency with Meyer speakers and Meyer Galileo Compass.
  • Experience with mixing for musical theater, concerts and comedies.
  • Bench Repair Work Skills: Wiring, Cabling Standards, Soldering, Component Skills.

Preferred: 

  • College degree highly recommended.
  • A/V networking skills.
  • QSC Qsys knowledge.
  • Soldering skills.
  • Cable building skills (XLR, 1/4, BNC, Ethernet).
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of video projectors and screens (Christie Projectors)
  • Video Distribution Systems (Magenta, Black Magic, etc)
  • Ability to troubleshoot faulty gear
  • RF Coordination Abilities
  • Ability to use different types of microphones and techniques for implementation.
  • Knowledge of other manufacture consoles (Soundcraft/Digico)
  • Knowledge of other speaker manufactures (JBL/EAW)
  • Bilingual, First Aid/CPR certified, forklift certified

Functions and Working Conditions

  • Frequent: Seeing, Hearing and Listening. Standing and being stationary for long periods of time. Pushing/pulling. Ascending and Descending flights of stairs and ladders. Face to face contact. Working in the dark with loud noises and flashing lights. Basic math skills. Analysis, problem solving/decision making. Lifting and moving equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasional Bending and Stooping. Ability to work outside in all weather conditions including hot and cold temperatures. Working at a high elevation.
